Centennial Park Project

In celebration of the 100th year of Rotary in 2005, the club has engaged in a project to revamp the canal area to the Northwest of the SR274 and SR66 intersection in downtown New Bremen.  The project plan was brought before the village council in late July 2005 and it met with their approval.

After unsuccessful application for grant funding from the state, reconsideration of the scope of the project and resulting revisions to the proposed plans, the updated plans were approved by the village council in September 2007 and work on the project was scheduled to begin in October 2007.

Further study of the planned park site put the structural integrity of the canal embankment in that area in question and the issue was turned back to the village for further review and consideration as to how to address the concerns.

In March 2009, a decision was made by the village after input from the community and village council to close in the section of the canal designated for the Club's Centennial Park project.   After the village has completed that phase of the project, the club will take on the responsibility of landscaping the area.  The anticipated start date for the work to close in the canal is yet to be determined as of April 2009.
