Briarwood Village Retirement Community
Mandy Diller, Community Coordinator for Briarwood shared an overview of the new facility that is under construction in Coldwater, adjacent to their existing nursing home in that area. Mandy, a resident of Fort Recovery, has been with Briarwood since August of 2007 and has a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and an MBA from Wright State University.
Briarwood was established in 1968 and was purchased by family owned and operated HCF in 1975. They earned the Malcolm Bride award in 2003 and enjoy a 95% customer satisfaction rating. They operate 6 of 955 nursing care facilities in Ohio. Of their 165 employees, they have 13 with a combined service of over 339 years. With the new facility, they plan to add abour 35 or 40 additional staff members.
The new facility is on target to be opened later this year. It will offer various residential options ranging from independent living apartments to skilled nursing and memory support. The 27 acre complex will initially include 110K sq ft under roof and will cost about $15M.
The community will operate on a neighborhood design model with groupings of 16 neighbors for dining and recreation but each independent unit will include its own kitchen. It will offer 24 residential apartments with 1 or 2 bedrooms, 14 enhanced living (assisted living) units for those needing some daily assistance and these units will also be in a 1 or 2 bedroom format but will not include a stove in the kitchenette. 112 nursing beds will be provided with 32 dedicated to short stay, 64 beds for nursing care and 16 beds for memory support.
A unique offering that Briarwood is pleased to introduce is Life Enrichment programs that include transportation, housekeeping, gardens, emergency call systems, fitness programs, neighborhood activities, etc. Main Street, a centrally located area will include a multi-faith chapel, library, psot office, hair care, community room, etc. The focus is put back on the residents with PCC education teams that allow for staff consistency and cross training, center of workplace practices, natural waking, use of napkins versus bibs to preserve resident's dignity as they transition into the later phases of life.
