Congressman Jim Jordan
Congressman Jim jordan, Ohio's 4th District Representative in the US House of Representatives since 2006, addressed the club once again to give an update on the challenges faced by our country today.
With the current Congress facing a 14% approval rating, Congressman Jordan believes that some of the challenges faced by the country are bigger than in the past, however, he believes that as in the past, the US as the greatest nation in history will rise to the occasion to overcome those challenges.
He highlighted what he sees as the three biggest challenges. First is terrorism which he described as serious and real. It is important that we recognize the mindset of the terrorists and now that we have taken the fight to them, we need to follow it through. He reflected on the necessary sacrifices that our military personnel face on a daily basis and shared about his witness to the dedication of our forces to see the job through to the end.
The second challenge he sees is the unprecedented spending by Congress with a $3 trillion budget and a $9 trillion debt. If ranked as a world economy, Congress would rank third with the US at the top at $14T and Japan second at $3.8T. He expressed an urgency in dealing with this problem in the near future as the Social Security problem alone would require a 40% taxation rate where typically it has been ~18%.
The third challenge he sees is the struggle over principles and values. The principles and values that we have historically held sacred were foundational in the establishment of our country. As such, it is important that we protect life, family and the free market economic system.
