Carla Bertke - Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development
Carla Bertke, Executive Director for the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development addressed the club assembly and gave an overview of the history of and the services offered by the Center.
The center was founded in 1972 by two mothers who had children suffering from brain injury. After working neurological programs for their children that were not available locally, they worked with Charles Burhns a Sensory Motor Developmentalist and worked to establish the center. It was first established in the basement of St. Paul's Church in Piqua and now is located in its own facility on Garbry Road in Piqua under the name of Hahn-Hufford Center of Hope (named for the founding mothers).
There are 4 main programs available at the center including neurological rehabilitation services, the Nicholas School for grades K through 8 for special needs students, the Brain Wellness Center for Neurofeedback training and the Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center for various levels of therapy.
