Beth Miller - Director of Auglaize County 4H
Beth Miller, director of the Auglaize County 4H program and 4H educator addressed the club about 4H in the county and gave some interesting facts about 4H. She has lived in the County since 1989 and is a resident of Wapakoneta.
4H was started in Springfield Ohio by A.B. Graham and has touched the lives of celebrities such as Johnny Carson and Rheba McIntire. In the local county, over 200 adult volunteer leaders help support the programs and participants which number about 2100. This represents about 20% of those eligible against a state average of 10%.
Beth shared that the fastest growing show project is market goats with only 10 shown 3 years ago and now about 80 are shown annually. An ongoing program called QA (Quality Assurance) helps educate participants and families about proper care of the animals and projects.
The 4H cloverleaf symbol carries the same protection and status as the Presidential Seal.
