Karl Dammeyer Pond Construction

Rotarian and club member Karl Dammeyer gave an overview of his family's love of water skiing that has led them to invest in the construction of their own 10 acre pond.  His first exposure to water skiing was in the 8th grade and he became addicted in the early 1990's.  He participated in his first tournament back in 1996 at the age of 32 and he was instantly hooked on competitive events.

Karl has passed the love for the sport along to his wife and three children all of who ski competitively.  The children have all placed in the top 4 rankings in national competition this past year.

With the help of Brad Everman of Maria Stein who constructed a similar pond, Karl put together his plan for a pond to be constructed on a portion of his farm land.  In August '05 he got the necessary approvals from the various local and agencies and construction began in April '06 and ran through November '06 with various weather delays along the way.  In the course of construction, about 100K cubic yards of earth were moved and the water surface area will be around 10 acres.  Nearly 1K tons of rip-rap surround the shores of the lake and 1.2K ton of stone line the driveway leading to the pond.  The surrounding property has been subdivided into 5 lots of about 5 acres each and each lot adjoins the pond.  Karl plans to build a new home on one of the 5 lots.

In anticipation of hosting some AWSA competitions, he has meticulously placed the markers to the required +/- 4 inch positioning accuracy.  He hopes to eventually have two competitions per year.  They have officially named the body of water that is located North of SR 219 and East of TriTownship Road as Shortline Shores.
